# References, findings and revisions

All names, passages and references below are invented. This is not a customer
report. Allow approximately 20 minutes.

## 1. Two years, one author
The draft says “Taylor (2024) describes the method.” The reference list says
“Taylor, A. (2023). An example method. Example Press.”
What can the tool safely change?
Answer notes: Neither year without the original source. A matching surname is
insufficient evidence. Record the discrepancy and verify the correct work.

## 2. A missing reference
“The intervention improves performance by 25% (Morgan, 2022).” No corresponding
reference is supplied. Should AI add a plausible title?
Answer notes: No. The writer must locate the source actually used, verify that it
supports the claim and add accurate metadata. Do not alter the figure to fit a
convenient source.

## 3. A quotation is highlighted
A similarity report highlights a quotation with quotation marks and a page
reference. Does the match establish plagiarism?
Answer notes: No. Examine the source, attribution, extent and context. Rewording
is not automatically necessary or helpful.

## 4. A language correction
Before: “The results was evaluated carefully.”
After: “The results were evaluated carefully.”
What belongs in a change log?
Answer notes: Before, after, location, reason and tool used. This edit addresses
subject–verb agreement. The writer still reads the resulting document.

## 5. An honest AI-use record
AI corrected three sentences after a report. Two missing sources remain unresolved.
Write a short process record.
Answer notes: Include the tool/version, date, purpose, affected sections and your
own verification. Do not say the AI checked sources it never received. Your record
is self-reported, not independent proof of authorship.

Distinguish a machine finding, supporting evidence and an academic decision.
